Press release performance is more than a view count. The right measurement depends on the purpose of the announcement: awareness, registrations, customer enquiries, media coverage or trust.
Start with basic engagement
Track page views, reading time where available, link clicks and social shares. These signals show whether people are finding and engaging with the announcement.
Check referral sources
Look at where readers came from. Referral visits from partner websites, media coverage, newsletters and social platforms show which distribution channels are working. Keep a simple record of the channel, date and result for each campaign.
Measure meaningful outcomes
For a product launch, track demo requests or sign-ups. For an event, track registrations. For a hiring or partnership announcement, track relevant enquiries. Tie the metric to the purpose of the story instead of treating every article the same way.
Review search performance
Use Google Search Console to see impressions, clicks and search queries for public pages. Improve titles and descriptions on pages that receive impressions but few clicks. Update older pages when facts change.
Use results to improve the next release
Over time, you will learn which topics, headlines and channels reach the right audience. This creates a more effective newsroom and prevents publishing content without a clear goal.
