NEW DELHI, India — October 6, 2026 — Softaken Software has released version 11.0 of its MBOX to PST Converter, which now moves entire folder trees from MBOX mailboxes into Outlook PST files. Subfolders at any depth are read during conversion and rebuilt beneath the correct parent, so a mailbox opens in Outlook with the layout it had in Thunderbird, Apple Mail or another source client.
A Softaken product lead said the release came out of how real mailboxes are organized. "A mailbox is more than the messages inside it. The way folders are grouped shows which project a message belongs to and roughly when it arrived, and that context disappears when a migration drops everything into one place. This version keeps the grouping."
A mailbox kept by a small consulting firm shows the idea. A main folder houses each client's records, organized into distinct subdirectories for contracts, correspondence, and billing documents. The correspondence folder is divided again by year. Version 11.0 reproduces that arrangement in the PST, so no one has to recreate it by hand after the files are converted. Before export, a preview panel shows the loaded tree, and folders can be selected or cleared one at a time.
There are a few options that can influence the output. You can filter by date range to limit the export to a selected period, and you can also have repeated messages removed. Corrupted MBOX files can be repaired in a quick or deep mode before conversion. The results can be saved in one PST or divided into several files of a user-specified size, which is suitable for mailboxes that reach tens of gigabytes. According to Softaken, the sources of 50 GB and above can be handled by capable systems, while a normal Outlook import usually has problems around 2 GB.
The converter works with MBOX, MBX and MBS files, you can add them by file or by folder and it is able to automatically detect an installed Thunderbird profile. Supported sources include 20+ email clients including Apple Mail, SeaMonkey, Eudora and Entourage, and Gmail archives exported with Google Takeout. There is no need to install any Microsoft Outlook for the conversion. The created PST files can be opened in Outlook 2021, 2019, 2016 and Microsoft 365, or you can save messages as EML, EMLX, MSG or HTML files.
The program is intended for Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8 and 7. A demo edition converts 10 items from each folder only. This is a way for users to check how a nested mailbox comes through before buying a license. The product documentation on the Softaken website comprises of installation steps, user manual and video walkthrough.
